King Cormak Flamestaff is the king of Gallantaria, Femphrey's neighbor to the north. He is a very tall and muscled man, with red hair characteristic of the Flamestaff line, who took over when the first Flamestaff king was anointed after solving the Tasks of Tantalon in 179 AC. He is perhaps the most prestigious monarch on the continent at the moment, bearing both the Ruby Sword, a magical blade that confers both protection on its wielder as well as incredible attacking power in combat. He also wears the Crown of Kings, the artifact that dramatically increases the ruling ability of the one who wears it.
King Cormak is married to the lovely Queen Korrine, a woman who, despite being in her later forties, is still of striking beauty. They have had seven children over the course of Cormak's rule in Gallantaria, five sons and two daughters. The eldest son, Edgar Flamestaff, will likely not wear the Crown of Kings for quite a while, if ever, as there is only one year left in Gallantaria's turn in owning the Crown. He has proven to be a bright lad, and he has the respect even of the Northlanders, who have ever proven troublesome to Gallantaria.
In person, King Cormak is a man of few words who prefers to let his actions speak for him. When he does speak, he does not waste time with flowery words, but gets straight to the point and makes his desire crystal clear. This man with the piercing brown eyes has confounded the most silver-tongued diplomats from other nations. His stern demeanor and grim personality fit the national character of Gallantaria quite well, and he has been a reasonably effective ruler, keeping the border clashes with Brice from spilling over into all-out war. The economy continues to grow under his rule, although the serfs at the bottom chafe at the feudal system in place. Cormak has not been able to ease tensions with the Northlanders, who remain as flinty and belligerent as ever towards their sovereign. Some Gallantarians are pushing for Cormak to let the Northlanders go to avoid the constant social headache they create, but Gallantaria would be ill advised to give up the great mineral wealth coming from their lands.
